ON THE MOVE…

Thanks to funding from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), Staten Island Board of Realtors (SIBOR) and Cross Country Mortgage (CCM), plans are moving forward to create a new dog park at the Animal Care Center (ACC) in Charleston, Staten Island.

Gego: Measuring infinity
A couple of weeks ago I was at the Guggenheim Museum to see the retrospective of the German- Venezuelan artist Gego (Gertrude Goldschmit) who, after fleeing Nazi persecution, found refuge in Venezuela. I was very struck by the geometric abstraction that can be seen in her art, the use of different materials, optical illusions and more. It is a recommendable exhibition, by a very important artist from a Latin American region. Hola! Poetry & Music in Staten Island

On September 21st at 6 pm. There will be an event in St George, Staten Island. Thanks to an incen- tive from Staten Island Arts with funding from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, a group of Latino writers and musicians will gather at Cargo Café to sing a potpourri of songs in Span- ish. The event is organized by Professor Nuria Morgado. Free admission.

Hace un par de semanas estuve en el museo Guggenheim para ver la retrospective de la artista Alemana- venezolana Gego (Gertrude Goldschmit) quien tras huir de la persecusión nazi, encontró refugio en Venezue- la. Me llamó mucho la atención la abstracción geométrica que se puede ver en su arte, el uso de distintos materiales, ilusiones ópticas y más. Gracias a un incentivo de Staten Island Arts con fondos del departamento de asuntos culturales de la ciudad de Nueva York, un grupo de escritores latinos que a la vez hacen música se van a reunir en Cargo Café para cantar un potpourri de canciones en español.
